News and Information

Summer scheme will be running for the first 4 weeks of the summer holiday.  All requested dates have been allocated, so everyone has been accommodated.  See Ceri if you want additional dates as there are a few places left.

Fees are payable in full, in advance, no later than 8th July 2022.

If your child is leaving at the end of the summer term please let Ceri know as soon as possible so that the place can be allocated to a child on the waiting list.  Thank you.

We are very excited to start implementing the PATHS curriculum which all children will follow.

PATHS is an acronym for ‘Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies’ Social Emotional Learning (SEL) teaches the skills we all need to handle ourselves, our relationships, and our work, effectively and ethically.

The programme teaches children how to label their feelings and apply self-control strategies, leading to improvements in playgroup behaviour, resilience, and verbal fluency.

During PATHS lessons we will think about feeling happy, sad, angry, scared, excited, tired, and calm.

The children can talk about their own experiences, listen to their friends, and think about how our faces (and sometimes our bodies) change when we experience one of these feelings.

Katie Simmons is our PATHS Coach who will work closely with us in implementing these exciting lessons with the children.

Please support this exciting initiative when the children talk about it at home or bring back activities for completion.

Welcome to our new starters in April 2022.  We are very much looking forward to you joining us; we have lots of fun activities and play planned.  We know that this can be a difficult time for children and parents who may be separating on a regular basis for the first time and we will do all that we can to help with the transition.  The staff team are very experienced and caring and will provide lots of reassurance and comfort to your children.

Please feel free to contact us on 07979553472 during the morning if you need any reassurance that your child is settling in and is happy, or if you have any concerns.  We regularly tweet the children engaged in play and activities throughout the morning, so please follow us on twitter - @wplaygroup

We are hugely appreciative of your efforts to help us keep Westend Playgroup a safe environment for children during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Please continue to exercise caution and keep your children home if they are symptomatic or unwell.  By working together we can protect as far as possible all those we are in contact with.

to MORRISONS for their continued support - we have some lovely herbs for the sensory garden.

We are very grateful for the generosity of the businesses that support us!

We have registered our setting with the Childcare Offer.

  • recycling of paper and packaging

  • using waste materials in craft activities

  • recycling of food waste

  • use of the water butt for the garden

  • growing flowers and vegetables to encourage bees/butterflies/bugs

  • teaching good husbandry to children through stories

We have updated our data protection information in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (2016) and Data Protection Act (2018), and you can review our privacy notices using the links on the right hand side of this page.

Please leave prams in the foyer at the start of the morning rather than bring them in to the main hall at the start of the session.  Doing so prevents children being able to leave the main hall and prevents accidents.

If you are the last to leave, please tell a member of staff who will lock the entrance door behind you.

Can you spare a few hours per term to assist in escorting children out into the local community?  Do you have a special interest, skill or knowledge that can be shared with children to enhance their learning?  Please see Ceri if you would like to get involved.
